Director of Choir
As a music educator for 47 years, Fran Hebert’s career includes teaching experience in voice and piano studio, K-12 classroom music and 6-12 choral music in Lafayette and St. Martin Parishes, instructor of Vocal Music Education at Nicholls State University, adjunct music education instructor and staff piano accompanist at UL Lafayette, church musician and community choir director.
Her choirs have received acclaim with awards at the local, state, and national levels of adjudication and performance. She continues to serve as festival adjudicator, clinician for honor choirs and all-state choirs, and as a presenter for seminar topics in music education and church music-program development. Since 1982, Mrs. Hebert has served on Louisiana state curriculum development committees in Elementary Music, Fine Arts Survey, Louisiana Content Standards, and the Superintendent’s Task Force on Arts Education for assessment and lesson plan development. She received the Lafayette Parish Teacher of the Year Award in 1982 and subsequent State Teacher of the Year ‘runner-up’ with local recognition as Outstanding Educator from the Lafayette Jaycees, Inc.
Her tenure on the board of the Louisiana Music Educator’s Association includes a 10 year term as District 3 Director, a 13 year term as Vocal Division Chairman, and 6 years as a member of the Executive Board. She was inducted into the LMEA Hall of Fame in 2013. Other professional affiliations include ACDA, NATS, SAI, and Kappa Delta Pi. She joined the LPSS PAA faculty as Director of Choral Activities in the fall of 2017 and continues to enjoy the camaraderie of the Comeaux High arts faculty and participation in the extensive activities of the arts community.
She expresses an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the continued growth and development of the PAA choral program which experiences a student enrollment increase yearly. She is the mother of three sons and three grandsons. She and her husband Reggie enjoy traveling and serving in church ministry.
