The Comeaux High Choral Department has developed a local, state and national reputation for over 50 years with outstanding, award-winning choirs.
Purpose
The attainment goal for a 4 year membership in PAA choirs is for each member to achieve a high-level of confidence as a vocal musician who can perform a variety of styles of solo and choral literature, and become a valuable team-member in a choral organization. After four years of study in our program, a choir member should have a resume reflecting a variety of performances and choral experiences that will impress any university recruiter. Every member in each ‘Spartan Singers’ choir is expected to attain the highest possible level of musicianship. Teamwork is primary. Consistent attendance, punctuality, and conduct are expected of responsible choir members. OCHS Choir Core Standards and Objectives are taught in every rehearsal. With this foundation, our choir members are prepared to enter higher education choral studies or community choral groups with intelligent and functional vocal skill and varied repertoire.
Choir Events & Performances
Our school year begins with a department field day in the fall held on our campus to provide students with activities to meet and greet, learn music taught by a guest conductor, and enjoy an afternoon of games and food.
We attend assessment events in the district both fall and spring and statewide in the spring. We make a yearly visit to the Renaissance Festival near Houston or Hammond in the fall. For Veterans Day we are consistently invited to perform in various areas of our community. We have been invited as guest performers for special occasions at the Acadiana Center for the Arts. We also perform each spring for the Arts Expo in downtown Lafayette.
We attend CYT musicals as audience members and schedule community tours to perform in public businesses, schools and universities in the fall and spring. We attend a professional musical production in the spring held at the Saenger Theater in New Orleans.
Our spring awards program is a dinner theater for an audience of parents and friends. For a final school trip in the spring, PAA choirs travel with the PAA Band to places like Disney to participate in workshops and performances on-site.
